With „Gimme The Groove“ Vienna’s „first couple of Jazz“ - Michaela Rabitsch & Robert Pawlik – present their sixth studio release.
The nine originals root on the one hand in the melodic styles of the Jazz tradition, like Hardbop, Swing, Modern Jazz, New Orleans Second Line and Blues, and, on the other hand, form fusions with elements of Indian, African or Latin American music.

Their songs are inspired by their numerous tours of the last years through Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa, with 1500 concerts in almost 50 countries, playing in intimate Jazz clubs as well as on big stages and at international festivals – from Tokyo to Teheran, Kuala Lumpur to Yerevan, Cape Town to Delhi, Shanghai to Almaty, Hong Kong to Cracow, Havana to Moscow, Chicago to Ottawa, Penang Island to Ankara …

The signature sound of Jazz spiced up with a touch of World of Austria’s only singing top jazz trumpeter and her partner, guitar virtuoso Robert Pawlik, also leaves it’s mark on the interpretation of the only cover song of this album - Kashmir of Led Zeppelin.

With Moods we now present our 3rd common CD – and the first with exclusively original compositions. A lot of our songs are composed together in interaction – a fact that helped to build our unique sound. On doublebass we joined Karl Sayer, with whom we work together now for more than 4 years on a regular basis. All the drums are played by Joris Dudli with whom we play together whenever his busy schedule allowes it. Three songs (Afrika, Quartual Guitar Madness and Put it in the Pocket) we recorded with Albert Kreuzer on electric bass. Kornél Horváth, whom we met first at Haskovo Jazz Festival Sepember 2006, where we shared the bandstand, enriches three songs (In silent Moments, Afrika, Put it in the pocket) with his colourful percussionplay.

The story of our duo started quite morbidly with a reverent appearance in the crematory of the central cemetery of Vienna around the Spring/Summer of 1998. By request of the bereaved we played two of the deceased’s favorite songs in a classic jazz style.

Soon after our first duo-performance the same booking agency offered us regular 20 minute gigs. As the repertoire had to change each time, we were forced to deal intensively with the art of playing duos that pulled us through decades of jazz history.

We constantly developed and the duo came to be an important alternative to our jazz quartet ‘Two of a Kind’. The transparent sound of the duo was often booked when the available space was too small or when the acoustic circumstances were too difficult for an entire band. Sometimes, the duo was booked for a much more mundane reason - when there was not enough money for four musicians.

By and by we developed our sound and a special repertoire, and the duo started to increasingly contrast with the quartet. It had developed into an independent formation and it was time to use a name that differed from that of the quartet. At the beginning of our co-operation we had decided to use "Two of a Kind" for all our shared musical projects. Unfortunately the name was so connected with our quartet with which we have been working regularly since 1998, that we decided to use our given names for the duo.

Now we have a complete, individual concert repertoire including a lot of original compositions specially written for this line-up. It was time to produce a CD – what you have in your hands now is the story that led to the music you will now hear. Enjoy and thanks for your support!
